Ayra Starr Tops Global Spotify Streams, Emerges as Nigeria’s Leading Artiste in 2024

Renowned Nigerian musician, Sarah Aderibigbe, widely known as Ayra Starr, has been named the most streamed Nigerian artist worldwide on Spotify. This declaration was made by Phiona Okumu, the Head of Music, Sub-Saharan Africa at Spotify, at a press briefing held in Lagos on Wednesday, July 10. Ayra Starr’s global impact was spotlighted by her collaboration with Rauw Alejandro on the song “Santa,” which claimed the top position on Spotify’s global impact ranking for Nigerian tracks.

Her individual hit “Comma” closely followed in second place, with Tems’ “Love Me Jeje” securing the third spot. The top 30 tracks from Nigeria that garnered the highest international listenership on Spotify in the first half of 2024 were recognized on the platform’s Global Impact List, as stated by Phiona Okumu.

Noteworthy entries included Luciano and Omah Lay’s “Another Vibe” in fourth place, and the collaboration “Just Like Me” by 21 Savage, Burna Boy, and Metro Booming securing fifth place.

Phiona Okumu said;

“The list acknowledges Nigerian tracks that received significant international listenership in the first half of 2024 and were released between January 1 and June 30.”

“Usher and Pheelz’s ‘Ruin’ ranked as the seventh most streamed Nigerian track globally, ‘Pretty Girl’ by Reis B and Tempoe claimed the eighth spot, and ‘Tshwala Bam’ by TitoM, Yuppe, Burna Boy, and S.N.E secured the ninth position.”

“Nigerian music, particularly Afrobeats, has captivated global audiences with its infectious beats, compelling narratives, and innovative sound blends. Its ability to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries is truly remarkable. At Spotify, we are excited to witness and endorse the ongoing evolution of this vibrant musical landscape.”
